Advocacy and Education

Our Advocacy and Education programming works to develop programs to fill needs gaps in our area, provide information and referral services, advocate for change, and support those advocating for change through political action, public education, and lending support to causes and organizations that align with our values.

Advocacy is an ongoing and ever changing need in our community. Our Advocacy Team responds to current events and community requests as the need arises. Our Advocacy Team is actively working on prioritizing our agenda to ensure we are a strong voice for our community. The goal of the Advocacy Team is to help the community find their voice and support individuals and systems in the fight to create more inclusive and equitable policy and public opinion.

Resource Guides

Our Advocacy Committee has worked through some of the most frequently asked questions our organization receives, and we’ve compiled a few into handy “how-to” guides. We are continually striving to add to these, as well as maintain them as information, guidelines, laws, and best practices change in our city, county, state, and country.

If you have an idea for a new resource guide, please don’t hesitate to contact the advocacy committee directly!

  • Changing your gender marker and/or name doesn’t have to be scary. It just takes time, patience, and about $500.

  • As all parents know, raising kids is never easy. There’s no one-size-fits-all manual to ensure happiness and success for your child (no matter how many get published), because every family has their own unique experiences and challenges.

So how do you respond and support your child, if they come out?

Advocacy Resources

When we asked the LGBTQ community in Volusia County what they considered a common challenge, they overwhelmingly told us that finding quality care that they could trust to be inclusive and accepting was on the top of the list. We hope this Resource List helps you connect with open and accepting professionals and organizations.

If you don’t see a recommendation that fits your needs please email us at info@delandpride.org and we will help you find that connection.

NOTE: These resources are not specifically affiliated with DeLand Pride. Please reach out to the resource directly for more information.
